This is a well carved and decorative example of the classic stylised bird form.

The dark, glossy patina of the interior is evidence of use.
Original white pigment still remaining in the deeper recesses of the carvings.

The carving of the wings and tail is fine and delicate thanks to the strength of the heavy hardwood the detail has been preserved without damage.
A knot hole near the left wing has always been a part of the piece.

Robust enough to be admired whilst used.
