C1900 Fertility couple Congo Wood kaolin Height Attractive pair of a male and female figure. Figures like this were given to a young girl before marriage. as an aid to the education. When a woman leaves her father's compound for the home of her new husband, the wooden figures are carried along, believed to permit the wife to become pregnant within a month of her first conjugal sexual experience. This couple was collected in Kenya. Reliable collector claims these are later 19th to early 20th Century.
