STRAND OF VENETIAN MILLEFIORE GLASS BEADS 30 beads 213 grams 84 cm This item was purchased by Ozmosis Art directly from African traders in Kenya. The beads show wear from everyday use. One only. Millefiore means 1000 (mille) flowers (fiore) and refers to the many small slices of canes that are used when making the mosaic beads. These have been popular collector’s beads for over 100 years with thousands of different designs and colour variations. The beads were produced by fusing various numbers of layers of different coloured glass, and then shaped and ground into many patterns. Original trade beads were made in Europe and transported to Africa as currency to purchase gold, ivory and pal oil. Beads were used as body adornments with countless different styles, materials and origins. AUD$550
