A heavy, hand crafted piece of tribal jewellery from Ethiopia with semi-precious inlays of red and black.

Modern Coptic crosses take many forms. The cross is inserted within the circle which represents the Halo of Christ.  The arms of the cross extend through the circle dividing it into four quadrants.  At each angle are three points representing the Trinity of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.

Medallions like this are worn as a symbol of none’s Christian faith. It is widely used in Ethiopian, Eritrian and Coptic Churches.

The origin of this cross dates back to the first Century AD when St Mark, who was born in North Africa returned to convert the people to Christianity. The Coptic Church is considered to be the mother Church in Africa.
