Untitled 2005

Pintupi Western Desert Australia

Acrylic on Belgian linen

91 x 61 cm

Tjunkiya Napaltjarri (c.1930) was born northwest of the Kintore community but moved to Papunya at the time the art movement was established.  Her confidence with brush and content combines with her rich experience to produce this painting depicting designs associated with the rockhole site of Umari.

The lines in the work represent the sand hills that surround the site.  The grid-like design depicts the puli (rocky hills) nearby.

She is represented in the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Aboriginal Art Museum, The Netherlands.

This painting comes with original Papunya Tula signed certification.
Papunya Tula is the oldest, established, Aboriginal-owned organisation and its certificate is the most reputable guarantee of authenticity in this most vibrant sphere where provenance is paramount and is integral to the value of the painting.
